Right as I finally found a damn parking spot, my phone dinged with a text. It started loading a picture as I read far back corner, by myself in the food court. I put the car in park and looked at the screen again.

She's as fine as they'd call French wine in a southern diner. Stella had the same hot-young-blonde vibe as Cari, from what I could see, anyway. All she revealed was her innocent, angelic face and hurried ponytail. It was enough to save me an awkward search, at least.

It being around lunch time, I followed the crowd inside. Sure enough, a big sign pointing to the food court backed up the directions my nose was giving me. And like she'd promised, Stella was by herself in the corner.

Not bad. I made sure I was looking at her face instead of the assets she was barely hiding in tiny gym shorts and a tank top as I walked up to the table. “You're Stella, I guess?”

“And you're Ryan Nash, I hope.”

“Yeah, that's me.” I pulled the chair opposite of her own and sat. “I'm not sure what all you need, but it'll help me learn more about the place.” I just couldn't reveal the true legacy Grandad had left me.

Stella shot a hand out. As I gripped it, I was pleasantly surprised at how firm she was willing to shake. “I know I'm asking a lot of you so soon after meeting, but could I see the house?”

“That's fine, but you'll have to ignore the other people living there.”

“So the rumors are true.”

I knew where she was going, but I had to let her get there herself. “What rumors?”

“It's always been one man and several women in that house.”

“You're not wrong.” I looked out the massive pane of glass to enjoy the campus 'scenery' on such a hot day. “But the worst rumors aren't true, at least now.”

“So you know it used to be a bordello?”

“Not really. You probably know more than I do.”

“But you admit it, you've got multiple women living there...”

It was time to choose my words carefully. “My girlfriend and her best friends. There's no point in making them waste money on their own apartments. It's hard for everyone around your age out there.” Gwen was part of the group now, so I wasn't fibbing.

“That's generous of you. So how do they pay for their rooms?”

“They don't.”

One side of her mouth curled up. “So they compensate you in other forms of payment.”

“I don't demand anything of them, other than not causing problems for anyone else there.”

“Come on, there's only one reason a single guy would put up with so many women in his house.” Stella leaned forward a little. “I don't have to put all of this in my report. I'm just studying history the house itself, not what goes on behind closed doors.”

“If you want to see for yourself, I can show you that it's not what you think.” It was, but it's not like all four of them trotted around naked.
